With 2016 nearing an end, I can’t help reflecting on how fortunate I am in my personal and professional life. I am blessed with a beautiful, supportive family as well as the opportunity to work with a great team of employees, investors, board members, and customers at Threat Stack.
As the year ends, it’s also a time to reflect on our obligations. At the core of its beliefs, Threat Stack values respect for individuals and the importance of working as a team to support a greater cause. These values go beyond our professional obligations and extend into giving back to the community.
With that in mind, I’m very pleased to tell you about two important initiatives that Threat Stack is supporting:
- TUGG’s (Technology Underwriting Good) Tech Gives Back Day
- Tech Tackles Cancer Boston
TUGG’s Tech Gives Back Day & Perkins School for the Blind
On Thursday, October 20th, Threat Stack is taking part in TUGG’s Tech Gives Back day (www.tugg.org/techgivesback) to support Perkins School for the Blind and their newly launched BlindWays micro-navigation app.
It’s an unfortunate fact that, even if a rider is in the vicinity of a bus stop sign, which GPS can help them find, the bus will pass them by if they are not standing right next to the sign itself. The amazing BlindWays app goes beyond conventional GPS and enables visually impaired travelers to navigate to the exact location of MBTA bus stops by using physical clues that are close to the sign.
To help populate the app with the physical clues that are needed to make it successful, Threat Stack volunteers will be hitting the streets on Thursday, October 20th to map bus routes and neighborhood features. (If you want to learn more about the app, have a look at this quick video from Perkins. )
Tech Tackles Cancer Boston & St. Baldrick’s Charity Cup
Tech Tackles Cancer Boston is mobilizing the local tech community to support St. Baldrick’s Foundation. As the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, St Baldrick’s is a volunteer-powered charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers to give survivors long, healthy lives. Since 2005, volunteers and donors have raised over $200 million.
Threat Stack is proud to be supporting the Tech Tackles Cancer efforts and will be actively fundraising to help St. Baldrick’s in its fight against pediatric cancer as well as donating 1% of its Q4 bookings!
We’d Love Your Support
Team Threat Stack welcomes any and all support for these two important causes:
- On Thursday October 20th, the Threat Stack team will be out from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm mapping bus routes and neighborhood features for the BlindWays project. So if you see a volunteer wearing a TUGG’s T-Shirt, feel free to say hello and jump in to assist.
- If you’d like to donate to the fight against pediatric cancer, please visit the Threat Stack team fundraising page https://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/mypage/109075/2016.
It is an honor to be working with such a great team and a privilege to have the ability to give back to deserving causes and individuals in our community.
